Play Word War II Online — Free Word Game
Word War II is a crossword tile-placement game where you build words on a 13×13 board to outscore your opponent. Place tiles from your rack to form valid words across and down, earning points based on letter values and premium squares. Use strategy to hit Double and Triple Word squares for maximum points. Play against the computer at three difficulty levels, or head to the multiplayer lobby to challenge real opponents.
How to Play
- Place tiles: Drag tiles from your rack onto the board, or tap a tile then tap a square. All tiles must form a straight line in one turn.
- Form words: Every word formed (including cross-words) must be a valid English word. The game validates automatically.
- Score points: Each letter has a point value. Premium squares (DL, TL, DW, TW) multiply letter or word scores.
- First word: Must cross the center star and be at least 2 letters.
- Draw tiles: After each turn, you draw tiles to refill your rack to 7.
- Use all 7 tiles in one turn for a 40-point bonus!
Premium Squares
- DL (Double Letter) — The tile on this square scores double.
- TL (Triple Letter) — The tile on this square scores triple.
- DW (Double Word) — The entire word scores double.
- TW (Triple Word) — The entire word scores triple.
Strategy Tips
- Aim for premium squares, especially TW and DW.
- Save high-value letters (Q, Z, X, J) for premium positions.
- Learn common 2-letter words — they're essential for parallel plays.
- Use blank tiles strategically on high-scoring opportunities.
- Watch the tile count — play defensively when few tiles remain.
