Play Spades Online — Free, No Download

This is classic partnership Spades, the four-player card game that filled the old Yahoo and MSN game rooms and shipped with Windows as Internet Spades. You sit South, your partner sits across the table, and the two of you play against the pair on either side. It runs in any modern browser on a computer, tablet or phone, with nothing to install and no account needed.

How to Play

Each hand, all 52 cards are dealt out, 13 to each player. Everyone bids how many tricks they expect to win, and you and your partner add your bids together to make your team's contract. Then the player to the dealer's left leads a card, and everyone plays one card in turn, clockwise. Tap or click a glowing card in your hand to play it; cards you aren't allowed to play are dimmed.

What Happened to Internet Spades?

Internet Spades was one of the online games built into Windows, alongside Internet Checkers, Internet Hearts and Internet Backgammon. Microsoft switched off the Windows XP and ME versions on July 31, 2019, and the Windows 7 versions on January 22, 2020, so the game no longer connects anywhere. If you miss a quick game of partnership Spades with no download, this table plays by the same standard rules. You can also play checkers here, or head to the Neon Parlor lobby for live pool, checkers, darts and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many points do you play Spades to?

The traditional game goes to 500 points. This table defaults to 300 for a quicker game of around 15 minutes; choose 500 above the table for the full-length version.

What does Nil mean in Spades?

A Nil bid says you will win no tricks at all in the hand. Make it and your team scores 100 points; take even one trick and your team loses 100. Your partner still has to make their own bid.

What are bags in Spades?

Bags, sometimes called sandbags, are the tricks your team wins beyond its bid. Each one adds a single point, but every time your team reaches 10 bags you lose 100 points.

Can I lead spades at any time?

No. Spades can't be led until someone has played a spade on another suit's trick (spades are "broken"), unless the leader holds only spades.

Can I play Spades on my phone?

Yes. The table fits phone screens and you play by tapping cards. An unfinished game is saved in your browser, so you can come back to it later.
